The Samsung NX500 shoots 4K DCI. That alone means that it was designed to be a filmmaking camera. Now, any camera you see that shoots 4K DCI (i.e. it has a video resolution of 4096 by 2160) is a filmmaking camera. In fact, the DCI in the name stands for digital cinema initiatives.

However, with the NX500, it is hard to say that it is really a great choice for filmmakers, because in spite of the fact that the visual quality is not in doubt, the audio quality, on the other hand, cannot be guaranteed. Unlike almost every camera endorsed by filmmakers, the Samsung NX500 is not compatible with external microphones, and that, for sure, is a huge drawback.

Is the Samsung NX500 good for beginners?

Even with its exotic features, the Samsung NX500 is still a pretty easy camera to use, and as such, is a great choice for beginner photographers. Its touch sensitive LCD screen alone makes it such an intuitive camera to use; just like your smartphone.

More so, the NX500 is a very lightweight camera, so, carrying it around with you on tour, vacations, hikes, and even for your everyday activities, won’t be much trouble. It can even fit right in your pocket.

To crown it all, the Samsung NX500 is quite affordable. So, even if you don’t plan to make money off your photography with this camera, it is still an economically-wise purchase.

Is the Samsung NX500 good for sports photography?

A quick glance at this camera’s continuous shooting (9 frames per second) and its mechanical shutter speed (1/6000s) already indicates that it is a great camera to take pictures of moving objects/people with, which is a major thing that sports photography entails.

Now, in addition to that, the NX500 has over 200 focus points and a wide ISO range, so, you are good in the focusing and low light departments. The only setbacks will be that this camera does not have the best ergonomics and also does not have a weather sealing nor a viewfinder for the outdoor sports.
