Particularly, the Sony a6000 is a good camera for taking pictures. It has a good max resolution, a decent continuous shooting rate and supports the RAW format. However, for videos, it doesn’t do as well as the Canon M6.

The Canon M6 is also a good camera for taking photos. However, between the two cameras, this one records better videos. It comes with a microphone port and has the video stabilization feature. Also, its tilting screen can be tilted far enough that you can take selfies or video yourself with it.

In this section, the idea is to see how similar both cameras are to each other. As a result, we’ve put together the features that you’ll find in both cameras. Now, some of these features might be exactly the same in both cameras. However, some others will be slightly different; nothing too drastic.

1. Mirrorless

Both the Sony a6000 and the Canon M6 are mirrorless cameras and this one factor is probably the most important similarity.

So, one fundamental thing that these cameras have in common is their mutual lack of a mirror and a viewfinder.

2. Weight

This is one common factor that is predicated on the fact that both cameras ae mirrorless. Now, because a mirrorless camera does without the whole mirror thing, it can be lighter while still doing as much as a DSLR would.

Now, while not all mirrorless cameras are lightweight, a good number of them are, including the Sony a6000 and the Canon M6. The Sony a6000 weighs 0.76 pounds while the Canon M6 weighs 0.83 pounds. We do not think the 0.07 pound difference will make that much of a difference.

However, we cannot conclude on the weight of a camera by only considering the weight of the body. We also have to take into consideration the weight of the lenses which are a very important part of the camera.

That said, we cannot exactly go through all the many lenses available to each camera to determine their individual weight. What we can ascertain, though, is that they both have the same size APS-C sensor.

The implication of this is that, for a similar aperture and focal length, both cameras will require lenses of similar weight and size. This tells us that the lenses cannot be that factor that tips the scales any which way. So, both cameras are within the same weight range.

3. Articulating Screen

An articulating screen is basically the kind of screen that can be moved in certain directions without having to move the camera body. There are basically two kinds of articulating screen; the tilting screen and the fully articulating screen.

The fully articulating screen can be rotated and generally covers more angles than the tilting screen. The tilting screen can basically only be moved upward and then back down. However, you’ll still get better angles with the tilting screen than with a fixed screen.

Not every camera comes with an in-built flash but we consider the in-built flash a good idea. Why? You know how sometimes you want to take a picture but the light just isn’t right? Well if the problem is low light, the in-built flash will definitely come in handy.

Thankfully, both cameras come with an in-built flash. So, you’ll have no issues in low light. Furthermore, both cameras also come with an external flash port and you might begin to wonder ‘why an extra flash?’

That said, the Sony a6000 allows for 360 shots with one charge while the Canon M6 allows for 295 shots before it needs to be charged. Granted, there is 65 shot difference between these two cameras. However, they both still have a not so impressive battery life.

Nonetheless, the battery life might be satisfactory for you. It basically just depends on what you use your camera for.

6. Wireless Connection

One sure sign of a tech forward camera is its ability to be connected to the internet. For some cameras, you’ll have to connect a device to the camera to be able to have internet access. And yet others have an in-built wireless connection. Whatever the case is, there is a means to connect to the internet.

8. ISO Range

To a very large extent, the ISO you choose for your camera affects the photo outcome. What then is the ISO? The ISO tells us, in numbers, how sensitive a camera is to light; that is, how much light said camera can take in as you shoot.

So, if you set your camera to a high ISO, it takes in as much light as the setting allows. This is a good idea if you are in a place where there isn’t enough light. The camera will basically try to make do by getting in as much light as it can. However, there is a very significant possibility that it will take in grains too.

On the other hand, if you set your camera to a low ISO, it doesn’t take in so much light. This is what you want to do if you are in an area where the light is just too much. The camera tries to counter this by taking in just enough light and not all of it.

This is basically about the format in which photos get saved. If a photo gets saved as jpeg, the photo quality gets reduced. However, the upside to this is that the photos saved do not take so much space.
